Post-Diagnostic Support
We can provide up to four one-to-one post-diagnostic sessions for autistic adults (18 or older) with little or no funded support in the Bradford, Airedale and Wharfedale and Craven areas. To access this service, you will need an autism diagnosis.
What is post-diagnostic support?
Our post-diagnostic support is a free service which gives autistic adults the opportunity to meet and talk one-to-one with an autistic member of staff. You can access this service no matter when you were diagnosed as autistic.
What does Bradford Autism AIM offer?
In our post-diagnostic support sessions, we can help you to:
- Explore your diagnosis
- Understand your autism
- Develop Strategies to manage day-to-day
- Talk about Families and relationships
- Put forward your needs
- Know about disclosing your diagnosis or not
- Understand sensory issues
- Understand your rights / reasonable adjustments
- Find relevant support through mental health signposting / counselling signposting
You can have up to four peer support sessions a year and each session usually last for 45 minutes.
How do I access this service?
Step 1
Make a referral
If you are 18 or older, live in Bradford and are not receiving any funded support then you can fill in the online referral form and select the post-diagnostic support option.
If you have already filled in our referral form before you don’t need to fill in a new one you can just email us at bradfordautismaim@advonet.org.uk or contact us through our website here and say you’d like to access post-diagnostic support.
Step 2
We will get in contact
We will contact you using your preferred contact method, which will be on your referral form, to discuss this support with you.
We can currently contact you by phone, Zoom, Team or by text.
We will also soon be able to meet people in person at our Hub.
We will have a chat with you about post-diagnostic support is and if it is right for you.
If it isn’t appropriate for what you are looking for support with then we will support you to identify other services that might be better.
Step 3
Waiting list
If after speaking with us you feel that post-diagnostic support is the right thing for you we will add you to the waiting list.
Currently, the wait time is about a month and a half to two months wait for your first session.
Once you get close to the top of the waiting list we will contact you to arrange a date and time for your first session.
